The "Karachaganak Expansion Project" (KEP) will have a total duration of 5 years and is part of a development plan of the Karachaganak Petroleum Operating (KPO) consortium which provides for the expansion of the plant in the area, which has been existing for 25 years. The project, aimed at implementing new technologies related to the extraction of oil up to the plant itself, aims to increase the gas reinjection capacity. The activities are divided into two phases which include the installation of two new gas compression units, the installation of a new package of gas dehydration units (fundamental process to avoid condensation before compression) and the installation of ancillary services and other infrastructures. The first unit is expected to start-up at the beginning of 2024. SICIM's Project Management will coordinate the execution from both the Aksay and Atyrau base, where the latter has a strong presence since 1999. From the new offices in Milan SICIM's Project Management will coordinate the engineering and procurement phase. The project will be carried out by the subsidiary KKS-SICIM LLP, a company incorporated under Kazakh law.
Behind the ambitious "Karachaganak Expansion Project'' there is also SICIM's strong desire to consolidate investments in the country in a concrete and permanent manner: of the 6000 employees requested, 98% of those involved are Kazakh nationals, for whom the the company provides a base camp with 2500 beds, all the necessary services and also an industrial area at the service of SICIM's business partners who intend importing skills into the Region. The goal is to increase local human capital and maximize the activities that can be done locally, thus leaving a tangible footprint to the area. In fact, KKS SICIM LLP makes use of the skills of Kazakh personnel, even at a managerial level.
