Sicim contributes to the new urban forest in Cesena

SICIM carries forward its tangible commitment towards sustainability, in collaboration with Arbolia Società Benefit, taking part in the reforestation effort of lot #2 of the urban forest located in Podere Sant’Anna, in the Italian province of Cesena. The reforested area currently boasts 3,000 new trees and bushes of various species, besides the 3,000 ones that were planted in the last few years, increasing biodiversity and giving tangible benefits to the local ecosystem.

We are talking about figures that do make a difference: 296 metric tons of CO₂ absorbed in the next 20 years, with a 207 Kg decrease of PM10 particulate matter each year.

This is a concrete initiative to improve air quality and counter extreme events such as heatwaves and floods. The Savio river overflowed in May 2023, also affecting precisely the area which is benefiting from this environmental regeneration effort.

Thanks to Arbolia, the Snam-owned benefit company created to develop new green areas in Italy, and to the partners involved – the Cesena municipality, COGEIS SPA, MANNA SPA, S.A.L.P. – we have been able to leave a positive footprint, not just for the environment but also for the people who live in this area every day. Because more green areas mean more cohesive communities and more hospitable cities, for us and for future generations.

The forest was inaugurated in the presence of Andrea Bertani, Councillor for Sustainability of the Municipality of Cesena; Alexander Herz, Technical Director and Head of Underground Works at COGEIS SPA; Berardino Manna, President and CEO of Manna Spa; Fabrizio D'Alessio, CEO, and Marta Tardivo, ESG Manager at S.A.L.P.; Alessio Veroni, Italy Branch Manager at Sicim; Giorgio Moncalvo, Project Manager for Infrastructure Projects in Central-Northern Italy at Snam Rete Gas; Simone Ferraris from Arbolia; and Luca Castagnoli, Secretary General of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Cesena.
